San Bernardo is a colonial village integrated in the municipality of Valbuena de Duero in Valladolid, dating back to 1950 when the town of origin, Santa María de Poyos (Guadalajara), was flooded by the waters of the Entrepeñas reservoir, creating a new village and giving each resident a piece of vegetable garden to cultivate, work that is still preserved today as agriculture is their main means of subsistence.

This town, located on the banks of the river Duero, allows the practice of hiking next to its bank (like the 12th stage of the Senda del Duero GR-14 that goes from Peñafiel to Quintanilla de Onésimo). For this reason, the aim has been to facilitate this activity and other activities to enjoy nature by installing a snack bar.

Saint Bernard writes his history together with the great cultural jewel such as the Monastery of Saint Mary of Valbuena, a building founded in 1143 to repopulate the Douro Valley with monks of the Cistercian order from Berdone (France). It is currently the headquarters of the Foundation "The Ages of Man".

FESTIVITIES:

• Commemoration of the creation of the people: second Saturday in July. It is a celebration based on the empowerment of the local identity and the vindication of its most significant signs, remembering the first families of the population.
• Festivities in Honor of San Bernardo: August 20 and days before or after (depending on the dates). Festivities in honor of the town’s patron saint.
