Location

On top of a hill in the south of the province of Burgos, close to Roa and Aranda de Duero, this ancient town bathed by the Riaza river, a tributary of the Duero, possesses a fertile valley dotted with vineyards which produce some of the best wines in the Duero River Valley.

As it was one of the first fortresses during the Reconquest, Haza still has remains of the town walls, a castle which will soon be restored and a pretty church with mediaeval features.

These three samples of mediaeval architecture together form an historic-artistic ensemble making this town an obligatory stop on the Wine Route of the Duero River Valley.

Santa Juana, mother of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, founder of the Dominican Order, was born here.
