Location

The Roman road from Uxama to Tiermes passed through the town. In fact the elongated shape of Ines is due to the construction of their houses along the road. Perhaps this was the origin of the so-called "Route of the Wool", a commercial road that transported the wool of La Alcarria and the cloths of Cuenca, honey and cereal to Medina del Campo and Burgos, and that today crosses the town until arriving to Mecerreyes (Burgos), being one of the points of passage of the pilgrims towards Santiago de Compostela.

The wineries are the most characteristic element of Ines, constructions that continue to be used today to keep the wine fresh and as a meeting place and celebrations of the neighbors. There are two areas where these wineries are excavated: Peñacín and Valdemuñoz, where we can find a large number of them. Not for nothing, since 1982, Ines belongs to the D.O. Ribera del Duero.

In Ines is the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, with ashlar and stone factory and Romanesque style burned by lightning in June 1974, with the furniture and pendants that were in its interior. At the end of the Mass in the days of the festivities pujas (auctions) are celebrated, and on May 15 (San Isidro), the mayor distributes candies simulating the sowing.

Traditionally, in Ines, the patron saint festivities are celebrated in honor of the Virgen de la Asunción and San Roque during the 15th and 16th of August. After the harvest, the whole village goes in procession to the Hermitage of the Virgen de la Blanca, a religious building where the procession ends on Thanksgiving Day (the first weekend from 15 August).

The remains of a palace and a tower belonging to the Dukes of Frias can be seen from the stately past of the Villa de Ines.

You can also visit The School Museum, located on the first floor of the Town Hall. If you want to see it just tell a neighbor. Anyone will open the door and tell you stories about the old schools.

Gentilicy of Ines: inesinos.
