Puente Pasarela GR 14 en Pesquera de Duero

08/01/2017 - 11:05

Located in the municipality of Pesquera de Duero, it is one of the largest wooden bridges manufactured in Spain (the largest of its category), with a total length of 106 meters, 3 meters wide, a maximum light that exceeds 50 meters and weighs about 50 tons. Formed by 4 modules built in Asturias and later transported with special vehicles to Pesquera, where they were assembled in a week, being perfectly adjusted to the landscape and causing a reduced visual impact (unlike concrete or steel) without reducing the resistance or quality of the bridge. The balustrade in the form of a barrel make a nod to one of the main activities that irrigates the Douro: the production of wine.

On February 17, 1494, the Catholic Monarchs sent a commission to the Doctor of Villaescusa (Corregidor de Valladolid) to visit both towns and find out the need to build the bridge and the cost of the work. The council of Olivares had requested permission to build it and had the permission of the Count of Urueña, lord of the village of Quintanilla de Yuso ... "

10/05/2016 - 11:09

The monastic group was the initiative of Alfonso X El Sabio, in 1266.

Visitable stays are the Church and its Sacristy, the Crypt and the Cloister. This cloister originally only had one floor, on which later another one would be built in brick. In the Sacristy of the church there is a Gothic Christ, and from it, one descends to the Crypt that keeps the remains of Father Manuel Suárez in a funerary monument escorted by four monks, made in granite and alabaster by R. Lapayese.

This crypt was built in the mid-twentieth century, it highlights the Pocito, which is a well that indicates the exact place where Santo Domingo was born. The Cloister was built between the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries (late Romanesque). It preserves remains of the different stages of its construction such as the low cloister with semicircular arches over paired columns, a Gothic ogival door and the 18th century overclause built in brick.
