Asunción de Nuestra Señora Church

23/05/2019 - 10:55

Decorated inside with baroque altars. It dates from the 18th century. The church knew how to give the parish buildings an emblematic burden, by converting them into the image that best identified a nucleus. For this reason, the faithful collaborated devotionally in all the companies and felt identified with the actions carried out. This makes us understand how ambitions were made by companies that exceeded the economic possibilities of the town, as it happened in the construction of the temples of Anguix and La Horra.

The building of the parochial temple supposed high sums whose payment mortgaged his goods and forced to contribute to the neighbors with his work and generous donations. The collaboration in the constructive projects of the parishes used to be rewarded by the ecclesiastical authorities with a certain number of days of indulgence.

Above, we can see ship bow dogs, which are without function because the walls have been re-erected. The straight head is perforated by a half point that delimits an internal pocket, its capitals are vegetal. Inside, we can find a baptismal font with a bocel in the embouchure and a narrow record of rough rollers, the rest is a succession of semicircular arches. The parish church of La Magdalena, Renaissance, and the hermitage of Santo Cristo del Campillo, from the same period, are the two manifestations of religious architecture that it has.

The main temple had originally a Latin cross plan, and was renovated to house other altars up to a number of four: San Sebastián, Santo Cristo, La Virgen and San Antonio de Padua are the holders of these Baroque altarpieces. The head of the temple is composed of an altarpiece of three polychrome wooden bodies presided over by the Patroness, Santa María Magdalena. Parochial church of Adrada de Haza dedicated to Santa Columba. It has an altarpiece from the 16th century, made by the school of Juan de Juani, with 18 tables and a carving of Santa Columba. Although, outwardly, it does not show all its values, being built in plastered masonry and irregular chairs in the tower, however, interiorly this classicist church, with three naves, with large arches, cornices and transept in Latin cross, dedicated to Saint Columba , shows a great constructive balance, constituting an example of this style in the south of the province. The vaults and dome are plastered with molded plaster.

Puente de Piedra de San Esteban de Gormaz

13/12/2017 - 00:55

It is an important medieval stone bridge with 16 eyes, based on another of Roman origin that has been continuously repaired and preserved (the last works have been executed in 2016).

It is located in a bifurcated zone giving way to two channels of the Douro River separated by a central island, so it is a very long bridge whose dimension reaches 200 meters and 8 meters wide.

The oldest references date from 1519, and may even have a tower for the control of the pontazgo (tax to use the bridge) and, as we have seen with the other bridges, suffer innumerable repairs throughout its existence.

Next to the bridge there is a quannago that served a mill complex (today converted into a mini power plant). It is currently a very busy bridge, since it is the only bridge that joins the two banks of San Esteban de Gormaz.

Puente Mayor de Roa de Duero

27/09/2017 - 10:20

Three generously-spaced arches have welcomed the town of Roa for many years, until the construction of the new bridge, doubling the entrance to Roa from the left bank of the river. Located at the foot of the fortified Raudense hill, the MAYOR bridge of Roa begins the route with a curve ending on the south bank, between the San Roque humiliation and the old Red Cross post, which once was the box for the pontazgo charge. The collection of this tax, as well as the exclusive contribution of the neighbors, allowed its repair from the mid-fifteenth century until the nineteenth century.

The Ex-Collegiate Church of Ntra. Sra. de la Asunción is the most emblematic building of Roa. Located in the Plaza Mayor of the Villa, it still lets us appreciate, in the street El Fresco, Romanesque remains of earlier factories, as well as a Gothic portal presided over by the Christ Majesty as Pantocrator.

Towards 1530-1540 the construction of the current temple begins according to the type of moment: church of plant of living room with three ships at the same height. It has vaults of crucería and warped, supported by wide columns of beautiful grooves grooved in its upper part.
